Radiofrequency treatment

Radiofrequency treatment
About the method

Radiofrequency pain treatment is a modern method with proven effectiveness, which involves the application of high-frequency electric current directly on sensitive nerves that perceive pain stimuli and transmit information that causes pain sensation.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and X-ray or ultrasound control. The doctor introduces special needles directly at nerve structures (nerves, roots). Then there is a short-term (up to 1.5-2 minutes) heating of the tissues at a temperature of 70-90⁰С. This method of treatment is called radiofrequency ablation (lat. ablation – removal) because it causes a long-term “disconnection” of the nerve. Another method is “pulsed radiofrequency treatment”, in which heating to 42⁰C deactivates pain nerve fibers, preserving those responsible for other types of sensitivity (the choice of method is recommended by the doctor).

Relief can be felt immediately after the procedure. Radiofrequency treatment is carried out on an outpatient basis, there is no need to stay in a hospital.
